I'm into this system for $3K so far and think I would have been better off with just a speaker upgrade. Should the 4 channels be wired independently of the stock amp or is it acceptable to splice into these wires? I read somewhere that by keeping the factory sony amp in line and powering the "other" speakers you would effectively be robbing the 4 door speakers of power, is this correct? My concern is that I will cause damage to the new amp if I'm always running it at almost max volume. The pillar tweeters and center speaker in the dash are still working which made me draw that conclusion.Īt volumes less than 1/2 the music is barely audible, at 3/4 volume its comfortable to listen to and when I max out the volume its loud but not with the clarity/detail I was hoping for. Not a big deal but as a result I have lost considerable volume control at lower levels. They spliced into the factory amp I'm assuming to negate running new speaker wires to the doors. Picked up my truck and could not be more unhappy with the sound! I've never installed an amp before nor did I have any idea on how to run/splice the wiring so I decided to let the shop install these components. ![]() ![]() PAC audio AP4-FD21 Amp integration interface ( installed this myself) I thought if this upgrade sounded good than a new sub and amp should really enhance my music listening so went back to the shop I was dealing with and bought the following: Hello, I'm a noob when it comes to car audio so please forgive me if I come across as such.įinally decided to upgrade the door speakers in my Platinum and went with the Focal 5x7 Access, what a tremendous improvement in sound over the stock ones, did this myself as it was fairly straightforward.
